When Democrats apologize
This week provided us something interesting and rare: two apologies by Democrats. That being such a rare sight, let’s see if we can learn anything new about Democrats.
David Gregory and Grand Wizards
Gregory is a familiar face at NBC and MSNBC. He was the NBC White House correspondent during the Bush years, known for asking 17-part questions spun into a left-wing fabric requiring the responder to answer either “yes, I am still beating my wife”, or “no, I am no longer beating my wife”. He now hosts Meet the Press.
This Wednesday morning, he slurred Herman Cain (and Republicans) in a comment so crass, it leaves one with mouth agape. Even by media standards, this was exceptional:
Ann Curry, NBC News: “He’s not stepping down, continuing to suck the air out of the narrative the Republican party really wants to tell. Does the party now wish he would just go away?”
David Gregory, NBC News: “Well there is no, you know, Grand Wizard in the party right now who can really force the issue.”
His apology
Happily, in this day when conservatives are no longer intimidated by the partisan media, public cries of outrage were immediate and loud. He tweeted later that day:
‘Wizard’ remark this morning was a very poor choice of words. Did not mean to make that connection at all. Was not thinking. I apologize
That’s it. A tweet. That is the entirety of any “apology” given.
Eric Holder and murdered Border Patrol agents
Holder is an industrial-strength corruptocrat. He was the bagman in the Bangs & Bucks 4 Pardons Affair involving Denise Rich, Marc Rich, and Bill Clinton. He has a decades-long track record of lying and misleading under oath to Congress and directing his underlings to do so. He nixed the 2008 New Black Panthers voter intimidation case. Biases against white Americans in his Civil Rights Division are documented and widely known.
Then there is the Gun Walker case (aka Fast & Furious). It is now clear that he and his top lieutenants are neck deep in it. Surprisingly the public, in response to the murder of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry with one of those weapons, aimed their heat not at gun owners and gun laws (as was hoped), but directly at Eric Holder and his Justice Department. Asked this week by Senator Cornyn if he would like to apologize to the family of Brian Terry, Holder twisted himself into a rhetorical pretzel to avoid apologizing [sidebar: it reminds me of the hearing in May 2010 where he refused to attribute acts of terrorism to radical Islam]:
Cornyn: Have you apologized to the family of Brian Terry?
Holder: I have not apologized to them but I certainly regret what happened
Cornyn: Have you even talked to them?
Holder: I have not.
Cornyn: Would you like to apologize today for this program that went so wrong, that took the life of a United States law enforcement agent?
Holder: I certainly regret what happened to Agent Brian Terry. It pains me whenever there is the death of a US law enforcement official, especially under the circumstances that this occurred. It is not fair, however, to assume that the mistakes that happened in Fast and Furious directly led to the death of Agent Terry.
His apology
Apparently his arrogance must have brought heat on the wrong people. I am frankly curious as to who those wrong people are, because his direct boss, barack, has no interest in this whole matter. But somebody with serious muscle got in Holder’s grill. Thursday Politico (the lefty rag that is spreading all the Cain “sexual harassment” propaganda) showed excerpts from a new “apology letter” that Holder wrote to Terry’s parents and sent the same day.
From the excerpts published, it looks very much like his statements to Cornyn but includes “sorry for the loss of your son”, therefore making it a Democrat version of an apology.
Anything learned?
Not much that we didn’t already know. If you knew nothing about the policies, the personal lives, and the political backgrouds of David Gregory or Eric Holder, and you just measured them by their apologies, you would know enough. They have no decency, no sense of decorum, and no conscience.
And by the way….
Apologies not accepted.
